The merchant would like the ability to control when the preorder button is displayed using Shopify metafields rather than relying only on default inventory settings. Right now, the preorder button appears whenever a product’s inventory is set to zero, Track quantity is enabled, and Continue selling when out of stock is checked. While this works in many cases, it can be restrictive for merchants who want more precise control over which products should offer pre-order.
The requested feature is to allow the preorder button to be shown or hidden based on a specific metafield value. For example, if a metafield called Allow Orders is set to “true” for a product or variant, the preorder button would appear. If the metafield is set to “false,” the button would remain hidden, regardless of the inventory settings. This would give merchants the flexibility to define their own conditions, manage exceptions, and avoid making theme or inventory changes that don’t align with their workflows.
By introducing metafield-based control, pre-order campaigns could become much more targeted and customizable, ensuring merchants can match the feature exactly to their business rules. If you’d like to see this added, please upvote and share your feedback so it can be prioritized!
