SUB- purchase type doesn't change during variant changes

We have standard purchase for the widget set to "one time purchase". When we change to "subscription" and change the amount (which changes the product variant), it jumps from "subscription" to "one time purchase". Can you help us solve this? We will be using subi plan on our two shops

we would like to change this so that it doesnt change the currently selected option
